App Widget - Available now!

Catholic Saints release 1.1.18 includes some bug fixes, in particular the Favourites Shortcut is working again.

And we now have an App Widget to show Saints / Prayers on the home screen. Place the Widget multiple times to see both Saints and Prayers.

New App Widget

Release 1.1.18 onwards includes a configurable App Widget.

On your home screen perform a long click, and then select Widgets. Search for the Catholic Saints widget and place it onto some free space on your home screen.

Now the configuration dialog should open. The widget can be configured to show one of the following:

• Saints of today
• Your favourite Saints
• Prayers
• Your favourite Prayers

Select one of them and press Done.

Widget Tips

Go direct to Saint or Prayer

Clicking on a Saint or Prayer brings you directly to the details in the Catholic Saints App.

Resize Widget

Perform a long click on the Widget. This shows the resize markers, which allow you to increase or decrease the size of the Widget.

Reconfigure

You can reconfigure the Widget to show another list of Saints or Prayers.

Multiple Widgets

Would you like to show both Saints of today and the list of prayers?

Then just place the Catholic Saints Widget multiple times on your home screen, and configure them with different lists.

Changing Text Size

Catholic Saints release 1.1.10 is out now! The most important new function is to change text presentation, both text size and font family. In particular on larger Tablet screens you might prefer a larger text size for better readability.

We implemented this new feature in response to feedback received from our user community.

Change Text Style

When you first install the Catholic Saints App (from version 1.1.10 onwards) you'll be directed to the Text Style screen during Onboarding.

Otherwise just press on the Labarum App icon (or swipe from the left) to open the Navigation Bar.

Then press Text Style to open the screen:

Use the red slider to increase or decrease text size, which can be set to certain zoom levels. The effect is shown on the Saint Faustina card.

If you are more adventurous you can change the font family, but this might affect readability.

A reset to default values is done by pressing the round floating button on the bottom of the page.

Using the Zoom Gesture

There is another way to change text size ...

The two-finger zoom gesture can be applied on most text sections within the App to change text size. Pinch two fingers together or apart to change size.  Have a try!

How do we sort the daily Saints list?

Version 1.1.3 of Catholic Saints will be released shortly, and includes a number of improvements. We now hold 4150 Saints and feast days.

Sorting of Saints list

With now already 4150 entries, we needed an algorithm to sort the daily list in a consistent way. How does it work?

• Firstly, some special feasts or Saints are marked specifically to be shown on top of the list for their feast day. 

• Then we order by veneration; Catholic saints are shown first.

• Now we sort by Solemnity, Feast, Memorial, Apostle, Dr of the Church, Archangel, Saint & Virgin & Martyr, Saint & Martyr, Saint & Virgin, Saint, ..., Blessed, Venerable, Servant of God, ...

• And then by name (currently english name only).

As you can see, it get's quite complicated. At this stage we can't consider regional preferences yet.
